Brown Drainage & Construction is committed to providing a high level of customer service. Through our previous experience working on projects in the GreaterWaikato and Franklin Districts, we have an excellent understanding of the Principal’s expectations. Our work teams take pride in delivering high quality work, ensuring the reinstatement is of the highest order while minimising the disruption to the pedestrian and the motorist.
Communication and Client Relations
Brown Drainage & Construction’s approach is to be proactive in addressing issues that may arise during the course of the project. Open and honest communication between the customer’s representatives and our people is of the essence for fostering a harmonious relationship, which ultimately achieves mutual outcomes. To facilitate written and verbal communication flow on this contract we have an up to date communication system that includes radiotelephones, telephone, facsimile, mobile phones, e-mail and of course standard post.
Resource Management Act
On most projects we are involved in high environmental risk situations, therefore we understand the importance of undertaking projects in compliance with the environmental plan or resource consents.
We have a responsible and proactive attitude to protecting the local environment and work closely with the Environment Waikato personnel.
To date no legal action or abatement notices have been issued to Brown Drainage & Construction by any controlling authority for a breach of the Resource Management Act. This is something we are very proud of and have a commitment to maintaining.
Staff Training and Development
Brown Drainage & Construction is strongly committed to staff training and development. We have formalised human resource management processes that cover induction, training and development and performance appraisal. Each team member is encouraged to undertake industry-recognised training such as:
- Code of Practice for Temporary Traffic Management. (COPTTM)
- Workplace First Aid
- Confined Work Space Training
- Relevant industry training courses
- W.I.T.O for water supply and sanitary sewer.
Health and Safety
Brown Drainage & Construction adopts a proactive management approach to ensure the Health and Safety of employees, subcontractors, the general public and motorists. We are committed to implementing policies and processes that exceeds the requirements of the HASE Act 1992, HASE regulations 1993, Amendment Act 2002 and regulations.
Brown Drainage & Construction takes practical steps to identify and control hazards on the work site and ultimately this ensures the pedestrians and motorists pass through the site safely with minimal delay or disruption.
Mike Draper co-ordinates the Health and Safety procedures at Brown Drainage & Construction and will undertake the site audits as defined in the site safety plan. We hold toolbox meetings weekly or sooner if a new hazard is identified. A comprehensive Health and Safety site specific plan is detailed and a copy is always on hand in the site office for all projects.
Work Programming
Kerry our Foreman fills out a daily work sheet detailing what comes on site, the progress for the day, the weather encountered and any problems that had to be overcome during the day. This form gives a clear indication on the critical path program and is used to update the program which is produced on Microsoft Project.
Reporting
A continual line of communication is maintained between the Foreman (Kerry) and the Contract Manager (Mike). Kerry submits his daily work sheets daily to Mike or if a more urgent response is required by phone. Mike relays all correspondence to the Council Representative/Project Manager by either phone, email or fax. All correspondence in and out of the office is logged, numbered and filed with each respective contract file.
All contracts have separate files for inwards and outwards correspondence, quality assurance results, variations, progress claims, notice to contractors and contract administration. Every correspondence to the Council Representative is sequentially numbered. This is to aid in the following of correspondence and reporting.
Quality System
Brown Drainage & Construction has adopted the TNZ TQS2 quality system, which covers the Contract Quality Plan (CQP), as well as the Traffic Management, Safety and Environmental Plans.
Brown Drainage management is committed to ongoing system improvements to ensure we meet our contractual obligations and customer’s expectations.
As Brown Drainage & Construction’s Quality Manager, Neil Tait is responsible for the overall management of our quality process and site auditing.
Managing Suppliers and Subcontractors
Brown Drainage & Construction has established management processes to ensure that material purchased from suppliers and services from subcontractors meets the specific requirements.
Brown Drainage & Construction is very conscious that work performed by subcontractors ultimately reflects on their performance. To ensure subcontractors are aware of their obligations Brown Drainage & Construction has established formal induction and communication processes. Additionally, each Subcontractor is bound under a subcontract agreement with similar conditions to the main contract.
Material for this project will be purchased from our preferred suppliers who have existing purchasing agreements with Brown Drainage & Construction.
Plant and Equipment Maintenance
Brown Drainage & Construction has documented maintenance programs to ensure all key equipment items are maintained to the manufacturer’s specified standard and they are in a safe working condition.
Invoicing and Progress Claims
Brown Drainage & Construction has a comprehensive information technology platform necessary for today’s business environment. Typically, monthly progress claims are submitted on Microsoft Excel spreadsheets and the invoices are generated from our accounting application. Work programming is monitored through Microsoft Project.
Comprehensive daily work sheets are filled out and passed on to the Council Representative on a weekly basis. All progress claims are based on the calculations submitted on the daily work sheets.
